How much does a Vauxhall Astra head gasket repair cost?
They have just said they will do this repair for £400 as a ‘favour’ as it would normally cost quite a bit more. This seems odd to me. Apparently on the 1.6 you dont need to change the head bolts. If you do them up until almost breaking they are fine. On a tight budget I wouldnt bother with anew cambelt etc. Just a new head gasket, exhaust manifold gasket and some new bolts.

How much does a head gasket kit cost?
The 8v astra is one of the easiest cars going to do a head gasket on and the parts prices quoted are a bit inflated. £125 for a cam belt kit !!!!!!. I’ll give you a clue, it’s not the 16v engine, no plastic tensioners included with the kit, just the belt. £9 retail last time I bought one.
